BIOGRAPHY
Dimitrios Loumiotis (b. 1960, Greece) is a Vienna-based visual artist whose practice explores speculative forms of life through sculpture, drawing and painting. His ongoing project, Evolution Ohne Natur, investigates posthuman existence by creating autonomous beings that emerge beyond familiar biological and evolutionary systems.
Working across different media since the 1980s, Loumiotis has developed a distinctive visual language centered on transformation, morphology and the uncertain boundaries between organism, artifact and future species. His sculptures originate from hand drawings that evolve through digital processes before returning to handcrafted physical form, bringing together traditional artistic practice and contemporary technologies.
Born in Parnassos, Arcadia, Greece, Loumiotis received his artistic education in Aegina under painter and scenographer Frankiskos Kappos. Since 1985 he has lived and worked in Vienna. Alongside his artistic practice, he established his own goldsmith atelier, where craftsmanship and material experimentation have continued to inform his sculptural approach.
His work has been presented in exhibitions in Greece and Austria and continues to evolve through the long-term project Evolution Ohne Natur, an expanding artistic universe where sculpture, drawing and painting become interconnected chapters of an ongoing exploration of posthuman existence.
